Program Structure and Goals
Our DAOM program is designed to be flexible and accommodating, with a quarter system, that is comprised of 1236 hours/86.3 quarter credit hours of study, that allows you to complete your studies in a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years. We provide comprehensive training with the goals to:
Graduate advanced TCM practitioners in the care and management of Internal Medicine-related medical conditions.
Enhance Traditional Chinese medicine scholarship in the U.S through training designed to cultivate the potential for Traditional Chinese medicine clinicians to become educators, researchers, and leaders within the profession.
Foster integration of the Traditional Chinese medicine profession into the wider healthcare community through the establishment of collaborative relationships.
Critically evaluate research and apply findings to improve clinical practice.
Provide the resources (financial, human, physical) necessary to support the effective achievement of DAOM mission, goals and objectives.

DEAN of the DAOM PROGRAM
Dr. Harry Hong
Dr. Harry Hong was originally trained as a medical doctor in Beijing University of Traditional Chinese medicine and completed his residency in Peking Union Hospital before coming to the States. He also obtained an M.S. in molecular biology at the University of Idaho and a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Medical College of Ohio. He received his postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Health and the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Hong has practiced holistic medicine in Chicago and in Florida for more than 20 years. He joined the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program in 2013. He participated in developing DAOM teaching curriculum and clinical training programs. He also teaches several DAOM modules, advises students’ research projects and capstone writing. Dr. Hong is interested in evidence-based study of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and has published many research papers in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr. ZUNLI MO, L.Ac., OMD., PhD
Dr. ZUNLI MO, L.Ac., OMD., PhD. is a state licensed acupuncturist and holds Diplomats of Oriental Medicine in NCCAOM. After Dr. Mo graduated from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1982 with training in both Western and Chinese tradition medicine, he had practiced acupuncture and herbal medicine at ShuGuang hospital affiliated the Shanghai University of TCM. He moved to USA in 1993 and has continued his practice since. Now Dr. Mo is working in Miami Cancer Institute as an acupuncture physician, and as a clinic associate professor.
In the past over thirty years, Dr. Mo has treated a wide variety of medical problems effectively by using acupuncture and acupressure in combination with herbal medicine. Medical problems include pain syndromes, arthritis, asthma, smoking, allergy, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, insomnia, headache, compromised immune system, poor digestion, menstrual disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, and other internal problems.
In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Mo has continued to expand his knowledge by doing medical research, for which he earned a Ph.D. in Medical Science from Kyushu University Medical School in Japan in 1993. He has conducted research on the effects of Chinese- Japanese herbals in renal failure disease, neuron transmitters on brain function and safety pharmacology in cardiovascular function and chemotherapy/radiation therapy related side-effects at National Japanese-Chinese Herbal Institute, Rutgers University, Pfizer pharmaceutical company and Miami Cancer Institute in Florida.

Dr. Zuohong (Harry) Ding is a fifth-generation practitioner of the Menghe Medical Lineage, one of the most respected traditions of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) originating from Menghe, Changzhou, China. Dedicated to preserving this distinguished medical heritage while advancing its role in modern healthcare, he has built a career that bridges classical Chinese medicine, higher education, clinical excellence, and international collaboration.
Raised in a family of physicians, Dr. Ding began his medical training under the guidance of his father, Dr. Ding Yie, before apprenticing with renowned Menghe physicians Dr. Xi Dezhi and Dr. You Yiren. He completed his medical education at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and his clinical residency at Longhua Hospital in Shanghai, where he developed a strong foundation in Chinese internal medicine and evidence-informed clinical practice.
After relocating to the United States in 2011, Dr. Ding earned his Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine (ATOM) and later completed his Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) at Five Branches University. He further specialized in Neuro-Acupuncture under Dr. Zhu Mingqing, expanding his expertise in treating neurological disorders, chronic pain, and other complex medical conditions through integrative approaches.
Since 2014, Dr. Ding has served as faculty at Five Branches University, teaching graduate-level courses in Chinese Herbal Medicine, Internal Medicine, and board examination preparation. His passion for education extends beyond the classroom as he mentors future practitioners, emphasizes clinical reasoning rooted in classical Chinese medicine, and encourages the thoughtful integration of traditional principles with contemporary healthcare practice.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Ding is deeply committed to expanding access to Traditional Chinese Medicine through community engagement. Through Uplevel, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community wellness, and in partnership with Alameda County, San Mateo County, healthcare organizations, and community partners, he has helped organize recurring acupuncture clinics, public health education programs, and integrative wellness initiatives. These collaborative efforts have provided thousands of treatments while increasing access to culturally responsive healthcare services for underserved communities.
Dr. Ding also convenes monthly professional forums that bring together licensed acupuncturists, physicians, educators, researchers, and students to foster continuing education, clinical collaboration, and the international exchange of Menghe Medicine. His work reflects a commitment to strengthening professional standards while preserving the rich clinical traditions of Chinese medicine.
As a member of the Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Academic Committee at the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine, Dr. Ding is dedicated to advancing doctoral education, promoting academic excellence, and supporting the next generation of practitioners. Through clinical practice, teaching, scholarship, and community leadership, he continues to build meaningful connections between Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern healthcare while promoting the global recognition and preservation of the Menghe Medical Lineage.
